Pierre Jeanneret — c. 1966 · ACL-019
In the early 1950s Le Corbusier was commissioned to build Chandigarh, the new capital of Punjab. His cousin and partner Pierre Jeanneret settled there for fifteen years and designed, with local craftsmen, the furniture for the city's administration, university and libraries: solid wood pieces, assembled without ornament, made to last and to be produced in quantity.
This library table corresponds to model PJ-TAT-09-A as catalogued in Éric Touchaleaume and Gérald Moreau's reference work on Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret's Indian adventure (p. 580). It still bears the administrative inventory stamp “S.R (U.T) T-312/II”. That marking is the trace of its public use in Chandigarh and a decisive element of authentication.
